Although the Anxin Edition has yet to be shown in its final form, documents submitted to regulators point towards a familiar exterior. The overall profile mirrors the current MG4, retaining its wide-stance hatchback shape, the Cyberster-inspired front end and the illuminated MG badge. Its measurements remain unchanged at 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide and 1,551 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. At the rear, the full-width light bar and arrow-style signature lights continue to define the model’s look.

The interior adopts the updated cabin layout MG has recently rolled out to the rest of the MG4 range. The central display grows from 12.3 to 15.6 inches, and the physical buttons that once sat beneath it have been removed. The traditional rotary gear selector has been replaced with a column-mounted unit, while a new 50-watt wireless charging pad sits lower in the console. The car also runs the MG–Oppo smart cockpit system, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Despite keeping the same 53.95 kWh capacity as the standard 530km LFP version, the semi-solid-state battery adds some weight, bringing the car to 1,500 kg—about 15 kilograms heavier than usual. Power output remains familiar too, with a single front motor delivering 160hp and 250Nm, giving the Anxin Edition a claimed 0–50 km/h sprint time of three seconds. MG recorded 11,480 MG4 sales in October alone, and the new variant is expected to sit alongside existing models once production ramps up.

The semi-solid-state battery itself represents a step forward for MG. By relying on a mix of solid and liquid electrolytes—where more than 90 per cent of the structure uses solid materials—the technology promises higher energy density and better thermal stability compared with conventional lithium-ion cells, while still being compatible with current manufacturing processes. As China works toward clearer terminology for advancing battery technology, authorities are preparing to refer to these systems as “solid-liquid batteries” to differentiate them from fully solid-state solutions that are still in development.
