The prototype will make its public debut at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will run every day from 9 to 12 July. Alpine says the A110 Future has been built to test the technology that will be used in the next-gen A110, rather than previewing the final production design in full.

The upcoming A110 will be fully electric, with Alpine describing it as the world’s first true EV sportscar. It will be underpinned by the all-new Alpine Performance Platform, or APP, which has been developed specifically to preserve the brand’s lightweight and driver-focused character in the electric era.

One of the key engineering targets is weight balance. Alpine says the A110 Future uses two battery packs positioned to respect a 40:60 front-to-rear weight distribution, which the company says is in line with what a true sports car should offer.

The use of two separate battery packs is also intended to help the electric A110 maintain a low-slung sports car shape, rather than requiring a conventional skateboard-style battery layout.

The APP also uses an advanced aluminium architecture, which Alpine says is designed to deliver the dynamic responsiveness expected from the brand. The battery system uses 800V cell-to-pack technology with high energy density cells, aimed at reducing weight and charging times.

Powertrain details have not been fully revealed, but Alpine has confirmed a rear dual e-motor 3-in-1 e-axle with a silicon carbide inverter. The setup is said to deliver strong torque, performance and fast control response.

The rear dual-motor layout also suggests that the production A110 EV will focus on rear-driven dynamics, in keeping with the current petrol-powered A110’s character, although Alpine has yet to announce output figures, performance claims, battery capacity or driving range.

Other technical highlights include a full aluminium suspension setup, along with new integrated braking and steering systems. Again, Alpine has not gone into full detail, but the focus appears to be on keeping the car sharp, light and responsive despite the move to battery-electric power.

While the new A110 is currently being presented as an EV, Alpine has previously indicated that the APP platform has some flexibility. According to an earlier Reuters report, Alpine CEO Philippe Krief said the electric platform for the new A110 could also be adapted to produce petrol engines for markets such as the United States.

That does not mean a combustion-engined version has been confirmed, but it does suggest Alpine is keeping some options open as market conditions and regulations continue to shift.

While detailed performance specifications are yet to be disclosed, it remains unclear if the A110’s existing 1.8-litre engine will undergo modification. Nevertheless, the standard A110 model delivers 252hp, while its top-tier counterpart, the A110 R, generates an impressive 297hp. CEO Andrea Zagato emphasises that, true to the Zagato ethos, the AGTZ Twin Tail is designed as a grand tourer, prioritising luxurious comfort and refined performance over raw racing prowess.
