Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia telah memperkenalkan Mitsubishi Triton Championship Edition 2026, sebuah varian edisi khas yang meraikan kemenangan jenama itu dalam Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2025.

Edisi khas ini ditawarkan dalam dua varian iaitu Triton AT Premium Championship Edition dan Triton Athlete Championship Edition. Kedua-duanya dijual pada harga RM 10,000 lebih tinggi berbanding model standard masing-masing dan akan mula ditawarkan di Malaysia bermula 11 Mac 2026, terhad kepada 270 unit.

• Triton AT Premium Championship Edition – RM 155,980
• Triton Athlete Championship Edition – RM 169,980

Triton Athlete Championship Edition dihadkan kepada 150 unit dan hadir secara eksklusif dalam warna Jet Black Mica. Penambahbaikan luaran termasuk pelekat badan bertema rali serta tayar all-terrain. Di bahagian dalaman, varian ini menerima sarung kepala tempat duduk bertema Championship Edition serta sistem infotainmen sembilan inci dengan kamera All-Round Monitor.

Sementara itu, Triton AT Premium Championship Edition dihadkan kepada 120 unit dan hanya ditawarkan dalam warna White Diamond. Tambahan kelengkapan bagi varian ini termasuk rim sukan hitam bersaiz 18 inci, styling bar, kemasan bampar bawah hadapan serta pelekat badan khas Championship Edition. Bahagian dalaman turut menerima sarung kepala tempat duduk bertema khas.

Pelanggan yang membuat tempahan bagi mana-mana varian juga akan menerima sarung kunci eksklusif serta set pelekat bertemakan motorsport.

Spesifikasi mekanikal kekal sama seperti model Triton standard. Triton AT Premium Championship Edition menggunakan enjin turbodiesel 2.4 liter yang menghasilkan 184 PS dan 430 Nm tork. Triton Athlete Championship Edition pula menggunakan enjin 2.4 liter MIVEC turbodiesel dua peringkat yang menghasilkan 204 PS dan 470 Nm. Kedua-dua enjin dipadankan dengan transmisi automatik enam kelajuan yang menyalurkan kuasa ke keempat-empat roda.

Varian Athlete dilengkapi sistem Super Select 4WD-II yang membolehkan pemandu memilih mod 2H (pacuan roda belakang), 4H (pacuan empat roda sepenuh masa), 4HLc (differential tengah dikunci) dan 4LLc (differential tengah dikunci dengan gear rendah).

Ciri keselamatan bagi Triton Athlete termasuk sistem bantuan pemandu Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) yang merangkumi Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control dan Blind Spot Warning dengan Lane Change Assist.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has introduced the 2026 Mitsubishi Triton Championship Edition, a limited-run variant commemorating the brand’s victory at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2025.

The special edition will be offered in two variants, which are the Triton AT Premium Championship Edition and Triton Athlete Championship Edition. Both are priced RM 10,000 higher than their respective standard models and will be available from March 11, 2026 onwards.

Limited To 270 Units Combined

The Triton Athlete Championship Edition will be limited to 150 units and finished exclusively in Jet Black Mica. Exterior changes include rally-inspired body decals and the addition of all-terrain tyres. Inside, the variant receives Championship Edition headrest covers and a nine-inch infotainment system with an All-Round Monitor camera system.

Meanwhile, the Triton AT Premium Championship Edition will be limited to 120 units and is offered solely in White Diamond. Additional equipment for this variant includes 18-inch black sport rims, a styling bar, a front lower bumper garnish and distinctive Championship Edition decals. The interior also receives themed headrest covers.

Customers who book either variant will also receive an exclusive key fob cover and a motorsports-themed sticker pack.

Mechanical specifications remain unchanged from the standard Triton range. The Triton AT Premium Championship Edition continues with a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine producing 184 PS and 430 Nm of torque.

The Triton Athlete Championship Edition uses the more powerful 2.4-litre MIVEC two-stage turbodiesel delivering 204 PS and 470 Nm. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels.

The Athlete variant retains Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system, allowing drivers to switch between 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time four-wheel drive), 4HLc (locked centre differential) and 4LLc (locked centre differential with low range).

Safety equipment on the Triton Athlete includes Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) suite of ADAS, comprising Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist.

Mitsubishi has quietly introduced a tweaked version of the Triton, but this update comes with a twist. The revised design is exclusive to a single variant, with only the Triton Street receiving the new look, and it is currently offered only in Thailand.

Based on the Mega Cab body style, which sits neatly between the Single Cab and Double Cab versions, the Triton Street stands out mainly because of its redesigned front end. The familiar Dynamic Shield styling seen across the rest of the Triton line-up has been set aside in favour of a sharper, more aggressive face. A reworked grille leads the changes, joined by a chunkier black skid plate and subtly altered bumper intakes that give the pickup a tougher appearance. Despite the tougher look, this remains an entry-level model, so halogen headlights are standard and fog lights are left out entirely.

True to its name, the Street variant is aimed squarely at life on tarmac rather than rough terrain. It rolls on 17-inch black alloy wheels, keeps the standard ride height, and is offered in a limited colour palette of Solid White, Blade Silver, and Graphite Grey, all contrasted with black exterior accents.

Under the bonnet sits Mitsubishi’s familiar 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. In this version, it delivers 148 hp and 330 Nm of torque, with Mitsubishi opting not to use the more powerful 181 hp unit found in higher-spec trims. Power is sent to the rear wheels only through a six-speed manual gearbox, with no four-wheel-drive option available. That said, the Street does come with an active limited-slip differential that uses braking to control wheel slip and shift torque to where it is needed most.

Positioned as the most affordable Mega Cab Triton, the Street keeps its equipment list fairly simple. Inside, buyers get fabric upholstery, three airbags, a basic two-speaker audio system, hill-start assist, a Forward Collision Mitigation system, and a sizeable 10-inch infotainment display.

The Mitsubishi Triton Street is already on sale in Thailand, with prices starting from 649,000 baht (around RM83,858).

To encourage active participation, visitors will be able to take the wheel themselves on selected courses, supported by professional instructors. Those who complete a test drive or book a vehicle during the event will also stand a chance to win attractive prizes through the Red Peak Challenge Lucky Draw, held daily at 5.00 pm. Adding to the fun is the Water Bucket Test Drive Challenge, where participants attempt to complete the circuit without spilling water from a full bucket. What does a pick-up truck have to do with your regular car? The modern ones can be just as comfortable as sedan, and sometimes better too.

There was a time when pick-up trucks were utilitarian. Those that drove one, used it for a purpose, for work. And there was also a time where you could only register a pick-up truck for commercial purposes.

That has all changed. The vehicle itself is almost unrecognisable in terms of size, design and comfort when compared to their “workhorse” like predecessors.

But even now, there are pick-up trucks that are more utilitarian than others. You don’t buy a Hilux for comfort and neither do you buy a Ranger to go hardcore off-roading. Some pick-up trucks are built to excel at one thing.

That’s just some though, there are others that are built to excel at just about everything.

And in that context, the Mitsubishi Triton, particularly the flagship Athlete variant is arguably the one truck that sits in the midst of a complicated equilibrium and is the best value for money pick-up there is in the market now.

But first, some context.

The Triton that you see on these pages is the sixth-generation variant. It was first introduced to the world towards the second half of 2023 and made its Malaysian debut in October of 2024.

The new Triton had it all. It was much improved over the previous-generation model and was a fine balance of comfort and utility.

But during its launch last year, it was overshadowed by the removal of the diesel subsidies. It was caught in between the political war between those that supported the subsidies and those that agreed for it to be removed.

The industry was in a shock, and this also resulted in lower sales across the board for pick-up truck brands.

So unfortunately for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), it was just a matter of timing. No one could have predicted the timing of the subsidy removal, and this caught out the new Triton, as good as it may be.

Moving forward.

MMM is not a company that sits on its laurels, or misfortunate in this instance. The company headed back to the drawing board, put its ears to the ground and came back with a new Triton.

It is still the same sixth-generation model, but just with a few enhancements that makes it easier on the eye and easier to live with.

It featured new body decals to give it a sportier presence. It also comes with a sports bar at the rear, a new front bumper with aggressive styling and more importantly an easy lift system for the tailgate. The importance of the latter is never to be underestimated as it makes it easier to lift the excruciatingly heavy tailgate.

And then came the final update, the price. MMM reduced the price from the initial RM166k to RM160k, in response to market conditions obviously.

This made the Triton the most affordable among the three heavenly trucks – the Toyota Hilux Rogue, Ford Ranger Wildtrak and the Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain.

So, what makes the Triton so special?

A few things. For one, the Triton has built a reputation of toughness and dependability. According to data sourced from MMA, over 120,000 Tritons have found a home in Malaysia since 2005. And over the years, the Triton has also evolved to meet any requirements.

Together with the launch of the sixth-generation model, MMM also offered the single-cab (two-door) variant of the Triton for the first time in the Malaysian market. This was in response to market demands from people who wanted a work truck without all the “show and go”.

The Mitsubishi Triton is also known for its advanced four-wheel drive system called the Super Select 2. Though only available in the flagship variant, the system is highly regarded as one of the most advanced in the industry.

The system gives the Triton Athlete seven drive modes and uses a unique viscous-coupling centre differential. This allows the Triton to distribute power between the front and rear axles in 4H mode.

Unlike regular four-wheel-drive systems that limit the speed at which the 4H mode can operate at, you can drive the Triton at any speed in 4H mode, even well past the speed limit if needed. That is something that is only available in the Triton and can be regarded as a safety feature when the road gets slippery.

And if you come across even more challenging terrain and need more traction, you can simply switch to 4HLc or even low range 4LLC to lock the centre differential. This makes the Triton unbeatable when the road gets tough.

There’s also the powertrain of the Triton Athlete. Powering the truck is a 2.4-litre, turbocharged, MIVEC engine putting out 204PS and 470Nm of torque. This is more power than an Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain, and though it may not be as powerful as a Ford Ranger Wildtrak, it surely offers smoother power delivery.

The Ranger uses a bi-turbo system that is prone to lag during power delivery. The Triton on the other hand offers instant power by utilising a twin-stage turbocharger which responds immediately to the accelerator pedal.

MIVEC on the other hand is a legendary system that works by adjusting the timing and positioning of the engine valves based on the engine speed. This in turn enhances performance by improving combustion, thus leading to reduced consumption as well.

And on the topic of reduce consumption, the Trion is the only pick-up truck in the market that runs on an aluminium engine. This is lighter which means the Triton does not have to work as hard to turn its wheels, which in turn reduces consumption.

What’s more, our research showed that the Triton Athlete is one of the cheapest to maintain in its segment. Based on a 20,000km service interval, we calculated the price of each service package all the way until 100,000km.

The Triton Athlete will set you back just RM7,303.18, which is lower than the Toyota Hilux Rogue as well as the Ford Ranger Wildtrak.

That can’t be all?

Definitely not. While design is always subjective, the design of the new Triton is not just easy on the eye, it is also an award winner. It won the 2024 IF Design Award under the Product Design Category.

It also won the 2024 Japan Car of The Year under the Design Car of The Year Category, ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Awards 2024 which recognised the Triton as the best Pick Up Truck, and finally it also won the Vehicle of The Year Award Malaysia as the Best Pick Up Truck of The Year.

So, the Triton is not just something looks and sounds good on paper, it has substance too.

Great, but what about safety?

The Triton has you covered as well. It did not only score the maximum of five-stars in the ASEAN NCAP crash test safety rating, but also comes with an armada of active, passive, and driver aid systems.

Some of the things that are worth mentioning include seven airbags for the Athlete version, forward collision mitigation system with warning and braking function.

It also comes with adaptive cruise control as well as the all-important blind spot monitoring system. Besides that, it has rear cross traffic alert, lane change alert, and lane departure warning, among many others.

But how does it drive?

Step inside the Triton and the first thing that gets you is the comfort of the suede and leatherette clad seats. The seats are not only plush, but broad as well, which is important for long journeys.

The near vertical dash is another thing that gets you. It looks tough, macho even. And the design makes it seem wider than any other dash on the market.

But the real magic of the Triton though is when you start driving it. The electronic steering rack feels light in your hands, and this shrinks the Triton’s commanding size since it is so easy to manoeuvre. This also makes steering in and out of parking lots a breeze, assisted of course by about half a dozen proximity sensors.

Mitsubishi Motors secara rasmi memperkenalkan Triton rali baharu dalam Pameran Motor Antarabangsa Bangkok ke-46. The updated Triton rally car, built to T1 cross-country specifications, was unveiled today at the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show. Featuring a striking new livery, the vehicle has been upgraded with improved engine durability, refined chassis tuning, and additional enhancements designed to boost its endurance and competitiveness. In the 2024 AXCR, Mitsubishi entered four Tritons, which showcased improved handling and performance to compete against high-displacement rivals. Thai driver Chayapon Yotha had taken the overall lead by Leg 4, securing a significant 20-minute advantage. However, an engine failure forced him to retire, dashing the team’s championship hopes.

For the 2025 edition, the rally will be even more demanding, increasing from six to eight days and covering approximately 2,500km—an additional 500 km compared to last year. Team Director Hiroshi Masuoka expressed confidence in the Triton’s potential, reflecting on last year’s strong performance before the unfortunate mechanical failure. He emphasised that the team has worked to enhance the truck’s durability and reliability, ensuring it can sustain peak performance throughout the rally’s increased distance and intensity. The team is determined to secure its first overall victory in three years.

AXCR 2025: A Tougher Challenge Ahead

The AXCR is the largest cross-country rally in the ASEAN region, and its 30th edition promises to be one of the most challenging yet. The event will begin with a ceremonial start on August 8 in Pattaya, Thailand, before the competition officially commences on August 9. The rally will take competitors north to Nakhon Ratchasima, then south to Chanthaburi, before crossing into Cambodia on August 14. The gruelling journey will conclude in Phnom Penh on August 16.

With an extended course featuring a mix of rough terrains, river crossings, and dense forests, AXCR 2025 will push both drivers and machines to their limits.
