BMW has issued a global recall for approximately 575,000 units manufactured between July 2020 and July 2022 due to a faulty starter motor.

The defective component could lead to difficulties in starting the vehicle, over which continued cranking will result in increased wear in the magnetic switch and in rare cases, result in a short circuit and risk of fire.

Among the models and variants affected include the G20 sedan, G21 estate, G28 (China long-wheelbase), G42 2 Series Coupe, G22 4 Series, G23 convertible, G26 Gran Coupe, G30 5 Series, G31 touring, G32 6 Series Gran Turismo and the G11 and G12 7 Series.

It does not stop there, the list also includes some X- Series models, comprising the G01 X3, G02 X4 and G05 X6. Lastly, completing the list is the G29 Z4, or BMW’s version of the mechanically identical Toyota Supra A90.

Rectification for the recall comprises a replacement of the starter motor and according to BMW, certain models will require the 12V battery to be replaced too.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has initiated a safety recall involving vehicles manufactured by Kia and Mercedes-Benz due to potential structural, equipment, or system defects that may pose safety risks. The recall aims to ensure affected vehicles undergo inspection and necessary corrective action to prevent possible accidents.

According to a statement issued by JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, the bulk of the vehicles affected consist of 5,123 units of the Kia Rio UB model produced between 2010 and 2017. These vehicles are suspected of facing an electrical short circuit issue within the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) circuit board, which could potentially lead to a fire.

In addition, 32 units of Mercedes-Benz models manufactured between 2023 and 2025 are also included in the recall. The affected models include the S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53, and EQS 53. These vehicles are being recalled due to improperly installed fuse boxes, which could compromise vehicle safety and reliability.

JPJ emphasised the importance of the recall exercise as a proactive measure to mitigate any risks associated with the identified defects. The department urged all affected vehicle owners to prioritise scheduling inspections with their respective manufacturers, who will be reaching out to coordinate appointment slots.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to make early arrangements to facilitate a smooth recall and inspection process. JPJ advised that owners may obtain further details or assistance by visiting or contacting any authorised sales and service centres.

As part of the recall initiative, all defective components identified during the inspections will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owners. The full cost of replacement will be borne by the respective manufacturers.

JPJ has also confirmed that it will closely oversee the recall operations to ensure compliance and to guarantee that every vehicle involved is properly inspected and declared safe for road use.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by their respective manufacturers to arrange for an inspection. JPJ has urged all vehicle owners to respond promptly to the recall to ensure the inspection process is completed as soon as possible.

Defective components, if identified, will be replaced free of charge, with all costs covered by the manufacturers. JPJ has assured that it will closely oversee the recall process to ensure compliance and confirm that all affected vehicles are safe for use.

For the Honda CB350RS motorcycle, 65 units have been recalled due to issues with the wheel speed sensor, affecting the accuracy of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), traction control, and speedometer readings.

The manufacturers, Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd, will cover all replacement costs for the affected components. Aedy Fadly advised affected owners to schedule their vehicle inspections promptly. Owners can either await contact from Perodua or Boon Siew Honda to arrange their inspection slots or visit any nearby service centre.

The decision to recall the Omoda 5 was made following an in-depth investigation conducted by Chery International, which identified issues with the rear axle shell component from a specific vendor.

While Chery stated that incidents of this nature are rare, they have identified 420 units of the Omoda 5 1.5T (Z and RZ) that may potentially be affected in Indonesia. To address this issue proactively, Chery Sales Indonesia will be contacting customers who own these units to arrange inspections at their nearest Chery dealer.

During these inspections, if any potential problems are identified with the rear axle component, Chery will replace the affected parts at no charge to the customer. It’s important to note that this recall only pertains to the Omoda 5 1.5T (Z and RZ) models, and other Chery products are not affected.

Chery Sales Indonesia reiterated their commitment to prioritising safety and providing responsible service to their customers. They assured that they are taking necessary steps to address the issue promptly and effectively.

As of now, Chery Auto Malaysia has successfully contacted the 60th customer and scheduled a replacement appointment.

Initially, 858 Taycans were recalled in January, but further checks revealed that additional vehicles could be affected. Porsche has now determined that 2,936 Taycans show anomalies requiring changes to the modules in their batteries. Another 4,522 Taycans have yet to be inspected and will need to be brought to repair shops for verification.

When contacted a representative from Porsche Malaysia said that they are checking if any Malaysian cars are affected. If you own a Taycan, we recommend reaching out to your sales advisor to ascertain if your car is affected.

The batteries for the Taycan are assembled in Germany using cells manufactured by LG in Korea. Launched in 2019, the Taycan has seen significant sales, with over 40,000 units sold in 2023 alone. As Porsche’s first electric model, the Taycan is crucial for the brand’s future, as it aims for 80 percent of its sales to be electric by 2030, gradually electrifying its entire range of vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the plastic pad on the accelerator pedal may become dislodged and trapped in the interior trim while the throttle is applied, potentially interfering with braking inputs. Owners of the affected trucks reported that applying the brakes while the accelerator was pressed down cancelled the throttle input, leading to safety concerns.

NHTSA officials confirmed that the application of the brake pedal will cut drive torque, even when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. This safety feature ensures that the vehicle can be brought to a stop quickly, mitigating the risk of accidents.

The recall affects all Cybertruck models manufactured between November 13 and April 4, totalling 3,878 electric vehicles. Tesla halted production of the Cybertruck after the initial reports to address the issue.

The cause of the problem was identified as soap used during the manufacturing process of the accelerator pedal assembly. This unapproved change in the assembly process resulted in the pad not adhering properly to the pedal, making it prone to dislodgement.

To remedy the issue, Tesla will replace or rework the accelerator pedal assembly at no additional cost to owners. Cybertrucks manufactured after April 17 are equipped with a new part that addresses the issue. Vehicles that have not yet been delivered will receive the fix before reaching customers.

The recall process began on March 31 when Tesla received a report of a stuck accelerator from a customer. Following an assessment of the car’s data logs, Tesla confirmed the issue and subsequently decided to voluntarily recall the affected trucks after receiving a second notice on April 3.
