The new 2.2-litre unit is set to replace the 1.9-litre engine that has been offered locally since 2019. The existing 3.0-litre turbodiesel is expected to continue alongside the new engine.
The 2.2-litre engine produces 163 PS and 400 Nm of torque, representing an increase of 13 PS and 50 Nm over the outgoing 1.9-litre unit.
Isuzu has introduced several mechanical updates to improve combustion efficiency and overall performance. These include a redesigned high-swirl combustion chamber, revised cylinder structure, a high-flow lubrication system for more stable and complete fuel burning, and upgraded fuel delivery system.
An electronic variable geometry turbocharger (VGS) is also fitted, helping maintain optimal boost across a wider RPM range while improving throttle response. Isuzu claims a 10.7% improvement in fuel efficiency.
The updated D-Max will also feature a new Aisin-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous 6-speed unit.
Full specifications and pricing will be revealed to be announced closer to launch. For reference, the current D-Max line-up in Malaysia ranges from RM 92,199 to RM 161,938.
