Tesla Malaysia has confirmed that the Tesla Model Y L will be launched locally on April 1, following a teaser posted on its official Instagram story.

Originally introduced as a China-market model, the Model Y L is now expanding into right-hand drive markets, with launches already underway in markets such as Australia and Thailand.

In Australia, the Model Y L is positioned as the range-topping variant, priced from AU$75,000 (around RM 207,000), while in Thailand it is offered at approximately two million baht (around RM 244,000).

For reference, the current Model Y Long Range AWD is priced at RM 242,450 in Malaysia, placing the Model Y L likely within the RM 240,000 to RM 250,000 range, depending on positioning.

Dimensionally, the Model Y L measures 4,976 mm in length (+179 mm), 1,668 mm in height (+44 mm) and features a 3,040 mm wheelbase (+150 mm) compared to the standard model. Weight increases to 2,088 kg, up by 96 kg.

Despite the size increase, Tesla claims improved aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.216, lower than the regular Model Y’s 0.22, aided by a revised rear design and integrated boot lid spoiler.

Powertrain details remain consistent with the Long Range AWD configuration, featuring dual motors and all-wheel drive. Tesla claims a WLTP-rated range of 681 km, a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h. Charging supports up to 250 kW DC and 11 kW AC.

The highlight is of course the six-seat layout in a 2-2-2 configuration. The second row features individual seats with heating, ventilation and retractable armrests, allowing access to the third row via a walk-through layout.

Both second- and third-row seats are electrically adjustable and foldable. With all rear seats folded, total cargo capacity is rated at 2,539 litres.

Up front, the Model Y L gains revised seats with integrated headrests and extendable thigh support. Equipment upgrades include higher-output wireless chargers (50 W and 30 W), an 18-speaker audio system and adaptive damping, replacing the frequency-selective setup in other Malaysian variants.

More details, including official pricing and specifications for Malaysia, are expected at the launch event on 1-April at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
