The Tesla Model Y L is now in Malaysia, with an estimated price of around RM 260,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of the year.
Compared to the regular Model Y, the L is longer and taller, measuring 4,976 mm in length (+179 mm), 2,129 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height (+44 mm), with a 3,040 mm wheelbase (+150 mm). Ground clearance is rated at 169 mm.
Despite weighing 2,088 kg (96 kg heavier than the standard model), aerodynamic improvements including a redesigned rear and subtle boot lid spoiler reduce drag to 0.216 Cd, making it the most aerodynamic Model Y to date.
While Tesla does not officially disclose battery capacity or power figures, regulatory filings in China indicate a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 340 kW (456 hp) and 567 Nm of torque. The same filings also list an 82 kWh NMC battery sourced from LG. Officially, the Model Y L is rated at up to 681 km of WLTP range. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in five seconds and has a top speed of 201 km/h.
The Model Y L also gains adaptive damping (Balanced and Rear Comfort modes), a feature previously reserved for higher-performance variants.
The key highlight is its six-seat layout in a 2-2-2 configuration. The second row features individual seats with power-retractable armrests, heating and ventilation. Both second- and third-row seats are power-reclinable and fold electrically.
Access to the third row is via a walkthrough between the second-row seats. Headroom has been improved thanks to the extended roofline, although legroom and seating position remain more suited for shorter journeys. ISOFIX points are also available in the third row.
With both rear rows folded, Tesla claims a maximum cargo capacity of 2,539 litres, up from 2,138 litres in the standard Model Y. Additional storage includes underfloor space and a front trunk.
Up front, the Model Y L features revised seats with integrated headrests and extendable thigh support. A 16-inch central touchscreen and an eight-inch rear display are standard, along with a panoramic glass roof and ambient lighting. Audio is upgraded to an 18-speaker system with subwoofer, while wireless charging pads now offer 50W and 30W output with active cooling.
Standard exterior colour is Stealth Grey, with optional finishes including Pearl White, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, Ultra Red and an exclusive Cosmic Silver.
