Denza has begun accepting registrations of interest, indicating the launch is imminent and it will join its D9 BEV MPV sibling here first.

The B8 is a proper ladder-frame SUV with all the right kit to garner solid off-road credentials. Hoisting up the ladder-frame is Denza’s DiSus-P Intelligent Hydraulic Body Control Suspension.

Denza has multiple versions of its active suspension and the DiSus-P is currently the most advanced version of the system, allowing for off-road ability thanks to it being possible to raise or lower the suspension by 200 mm and a hydraulic spring assembly for each wheel to react to the road surface.

The system is capable of actively and continuously adapting to conditions based on external variables such as the terrain, speed and vehicle dynamics.

This differs from the advanced DiSus-C system in the D9 MPV that is currently the brand’s sole offering here. DiSus-C is the most basic version and functions similarly to variable damping shock absorbers with electronic control valves adjusting the damping rate.

Denza labels the rugged-looking styling as ‘Starship Mecha’ and we will just leave it as that, nodding only to the tough appearance that would be intimidating.

While the D9 is purely electric, the B8 runs a DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) Super Hybrid PHEV powertrain. It comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with dual electric motors for all-wheel drive.

On its own, the petrol mills makes 197 PS and 250 Nm. The front electric motor contributes 271 PS and 360 Nm of torque while the rear-mounted motor delivers 408 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Combined, that equals a respectable 578 PS and 760 Nm of torque.

There is a 36.8 kWh Blade LFP battery to feed the electric motors that also contributes up to 115 km of electric-only range. Among the drive modes include Pure EV, HEV Series and HEV Parallel that intelligently function with just the push of a switch to propel the B8 forward.

Readers might be more familiar with the B8 under its native moniker, BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao 8. However, it was rebranded under the premium Denza badging for export that hints at its luxury positioning.

Pricing is expected to sit in the vicinity of its D9 MPV sibling, that ranges between RM 299,000 and RM 355,000 for the two variants currently sold here.
