Oh Jaguar, where did it all go wrong? After halting vehicle production, blowing big coin on an elaborate ad campaign that it pulled a handbrake U-turn on and revealing the Type 00 concept, it has all gone south with the hotly-anticipated but mundanely mediocre official name for its first new model the Jaguar Type 01.
Creativity took a back seat for this one. While the name echoes with typical Jaguar tones, we cannot help but feel a little short-changed. To be honest, it is quite self-explanatory. Jaguar has extensively used the ‘Type’ suffix like C-Type, D-Type, E-Type and F-Type. The ‘0’ denotes zero emissions while ‘1’ is the first model following the brand’s reincarnation.
The new name was revealed via a single teaser image of the concept’s slim vent panelling that has been carried over to the production version. Jaguar adds that the name will be visible on the panel between the windscreen and hood.

There is no official look at the Type 01 just yet but Jaguar has confirmed a set of prototypes will debut at the Formula E Monaco E-Prix over the 16-17 May 2026 weekend.
The Type 01 will be an electric four-door grand tourer. Details are scarce but it will apparently roll up with an earth-twisting 986 PS and 1,300 Nm of torque.

On the bright side, the only positive about the name reveal is how it hit rock bottom, meaning everything following this can only go up. And given the carmaker’s luck recently, it desperately needs things to in that direction. The Type 01 is scheduled for September 2026 launch.
