The Jaguar Type 01 made its first appearance and there could not be a more fitting location than the millionaire-laden streets of Monaco, as the brand’s first model under its rebirth unleashed its power to build hype before the Monaco E-Prix.
Jaguar claims the Type 01 will drive “like no other electric car,” which given the marque’s sketchy history, is hard to decipher.
The electric four-door luxury GT will feature a tri-motor setup and over 1,000 PS. Given the brand’s rebirth will centre around EV’s, capitalising on the Monaco E-prix seemed appropriate and it did so sporting a camouflage wrap while lapping the historic Monte Carlo street circuit.

There is a more direct link though to the race, Jaguar did win the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship as Jaguar TCS Racing and the series would have definitely delivered some valuable EV lessons in the Type 01’s development.
“To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams,” said Rawdon Glover, Jaguar managing director.
‘Type’ has long been a foundation for Jaguar’s naming method, with the likes of the Type-D and Type-E, the latter dubbed the most beautiful car ever made by none other than Enzo Ferrari.
The ‘0’ in the name represents zero emissions while the ‘1’ signifies the first model under the rebranding.
Jaguar Land Rover has been undergoing financial difficulties, meaning the Type 01’s success is especially crucial with little to no room for failure. Early impressions have been positive but given its luxury positioning and heavy price tag, it could prove to be a difficult sell.
The car will be revealed before the end of the year with estimated pricing around $150,000 to $160,000 (~RM597,000-636,000).
