The first locally assembled (CKD) Xpeng G6 has rolled off the line at EP Manufacturing Berhad’s (EPMB) plant in Melaka. The update was shared by Xpeng on its social media channels, with the brand describing it as “a new milestone in Xpeng’s ASEAN journey.”
The move follows the announcement made last year that Xpeng would locally assemble the G6 SUV, X9 MPV and X9 PowerX range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) in Malaysia, with EPMB appointed as its CKD partner.
According to the previous announcement, production of the G6 was expected to begin on 31 March 2026, while the X9 was scheduled to enter production on 25 May 2026. The G6 line-off now confirms that local assembly of the electric SUV is underway.
The Xpeng G6 is currently sold in Malaysia in facelift form, with fully imported (CBU) variants priced from RM 160k for the RWD Standard Range. The RWD Long Range Pro is priced at RM 180k, while the AWD Performance and AWD Black Edition are priced at RM 192k and RM 196k respectively.
Xpeng Malaysia has yet to announce CKD pricing, variant line-up or launch timing for the locally assembled G6. It remains to be seen whether all existing variants will continue to be offered in CKD form, or whether the line-up will be adjusted.
EPMB has been expanding its contract assembly operations in Melaka and currently assembles vehicles for several brands, including Great Wall Motor and BAIC. The plant has also started CKD assembly of the MG S5 EV, which rolled off the line earlier this year. The Xpeng G6 now joins that growing list of EVs assembled at EPMB’s Melaka facility.
Beyond the G6, Xpeng’s local assembly plans also include the X9 and X9 PowerX. The earlier agreement also gave EPMB a first right of offer for the assembly of three additional future Xpeng models in Malaysia, subject to agreed terms.
