BYD Malaysia may have been knocked off its perch as the best-selling battery electrical vehicle (BEV) brand here by Proton, but it remains one of the top players in the segment and will be bolstering its range here with the sleek Denza Z9 GT that should launch by the middle of the year. The announcement
The announcement was during a media gathering that also recapped its top spot from 2023 to 2025, courtesy of popular models such as the Atto 3, Seal and Dolphin, though the Z9 GT will not be a volume seller.
To date, BYD Malaysia have sold over 28,500 cars and are constantly expanding their network, which stands at 40 sales points, 25 aftersales centres and 12 body & paint facilities.

If you think the shooting brake looks massive, you are not wrong. At close to 5.2 metres with a massive 3,125 mm wheelbase, it is larger than the likes of the Audi A6 Avant, BMW 5 Series Touring and Porsche Panamera. It definitely has presence, which in a premium segment is already winning half the battle.
The interior is similar to the Denza D9 with a tech-heavy dashboard and plenty of leather with wood trim to drive home its premium positioning. It does get larger screens though, a 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a massive 17.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment.
Other luxurious include a heated and cooled storage compartment between the front seats and a 50 W wireless charging pad.
While the powertrain is not confirmed yet, the Z9 GT is available as a full BEV or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in its native China.
The EV runs a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive with an earth-shaking 963 PS and 710 Nm of torque. That equates to a 0-100 kph time of 3.4 seconds and a range of 630 km from the 100.0 kWh LFP battery, though the range is via China’s ambitious CLTC cycle.
On the other hand, the PHEV has a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that serves as a generator to the run the electric motors. The 38.5 kWh Blade LFP battery allows a pure electric range of 201 km (CLTC). With a full tank of petrol, the total range is 1,100 km.
From a handling perspective, the Z9 GT rides on dual-chamber air suspension that can be lowered by up to 50 mm. The rear axle houses a rear-steering with up to 20 degrees of angle, reducing the turning radius to 4.62 metres, impressive for such a long vehicle. Furthermore, the rear steering allows gimmicks such as rotating in place and ‘crab walking.’
While the powertrain and full spec sheet remains unclear, the Z9 GT will definitely be arriving on our roads.
