BYD Malaysia has announced a leadership transition, with Jacob Ma appointed as the new Managing Director, overseeing both the BYD and Denza brands in Malaysia.
He succeeds Eagle Zhao, who will now focus fully on his role as President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia. The move reflects BYD’s regional strategy, with Malaysia positioned as a key growth market in Southeast Asia.
During his tenure, Eagle Zhao played a key role in establishing BYD’s presence in Malaysia, with the company delivering over 30,000 BYD and Denza vehicles nationwide. The brand also expanded its dealer network, strengthened aftersales capabilities and accelerated EV adoption locally.
Jacob Ma brings global experience from BYD headquarters in Shenzhen, where he previously served as Head of Training for five years before taking on the role of Vice President of BYD Indonesia for two years. His experience includes developing international market readiness programmes, improving retail standards and leading capability-building initiatives across multiple regions.
He also has prior experience as a consultant and in the aviation sector, focusing on technology transfer and operational transformation, which supports his role in leading organisational growth and alignment.
As Managing Director, Jacob Ma will oversee business strategy, sales, marketing, network development and aftersales operations for both brands. His focus will include strengthening dealer partnerships, expanding the product portfolio, enhancing brand positioning between BYD and Denza, and improving overall customer experience.
