Whether you want to call it a facelift is debatable. From the outside, the changes are minimal, limited to small details like a new Iris Green paint option. This feels more like a mid-cycle update focused on usability and cabin improvements rather than a traditional facelift with obvious design changes.

The biggest change is inside where the MG4 now gets a completely redesigned dashboard, ditching the angular, driver-focused layout of the current car for a cleaner, more conventional design. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s essentially the same layout as the MG S5 SUV, featuring a floating-style centre console with repositioned cupholders, a wireless charging pad, and a rotary gear selector.

Screen sizes have also been upgraded. The instrument cluster grows from seven inches to 10.25 inches, while the infotainment display is now a larger 12.8-inch unit. More importantly, MG has addressed one of the biggest complaints about the current car by reintroducing physical controls for air-conditioning functions, including temperature, fan speed, and airflow direction.

Other cabin updates include redesigned seats, with higher-spec variants gaining powered adjustment and ventilation for both front occupants. Rear passengers also benefit from the addition of air-conditioning vents, although there’s still just a single USB port at the back.

Under the skin, the MG4 in Thailand now uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries across the range, replacing the nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) units used in European-spec cars, including those sold in Malaysia. This results in lower outputs and smaller battery capacities compared to the current Malaysian models.

The Thai-market lineup starts with the D Standard Range, producing 170 PS and 250 Nm from a 50 kWh battery. Above that, the X Long Range delivers 245 PS and 350 Nm with a 62.2 kWh battery. Claimed range is 450 km and 540 km respectively, although these figures are based on the more lenient NEDC cycle, so real-world WLTP-equivalent numbers would likely be lower.

DC fast charging remains unchanged, with support of up to 140 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in around 26 minutes for the larger battery variant.

Pricing in Thailand is ranges from 579,900 to 699,900 baht (approximately RM 72k to RM 87k), largely due to local assembly and different market positioning. For context, the MG4 in Malaysia currently starts from RM 100,888, influenced in part by the RM 100k floor price for fully imported EVs.

As for Malaysia, the updated MG4 is likely to arrive eventually, but timing remains uncertain. With local assembly plans involving SAIC Motor Malaysia and EP Manufacturing (EPMB), priority may be given to higher-demand models such as the MG S5.
