Just like hunting down a rare and elusive Tomica or Hot Wheels model, the Happy Meal method is another chance-driven way to get the cool die-casts.
Toyota and McDonalds’s will be teaming up with Tomica to add the sleek racer into the boxes later this month. The race car will be among esteemed company as it rotates alongside a Nissan Skyline police car, a Hino fire truck and a Toyota TownAce transporting a giant hamburger.

Together with the release of the toy, Toyota also uploaded a promotional video to promote a contest and it looks heavily inspired by the Speed Racer franchise. The roughly one-minute video pits child race drivers against each other in a battle for the best GR GT3 livery, which is the mechanics of the contest.
Anyone can enter the contest, and the goal is to design a new GR GT3 livery with the winner chosen by a panel of judges. Prizes are said to be special, albeit currently undisclosed.
Unfortunately, the GR GT3 die-cast is only available in Happy Meals sold in Japan beginning 10 April. Toyota added that a new secret model will join the line-up on 7 May and it will likely be the golden McDonald’s-themed car from the contest video.
