This Haoyue L is the basis for the X90 that we know and also goes by the name Okavango in other markets. Granted, this refresh came in late last year but here we capture it in its metal.

And that metal has undergone some sharp enhancements. Overall, the new Haoyou L brings an updated look, new engines and a tech.

In its native China, the Haoyue L comes with a larger 2.0-litre, also mated to the 7-speed wet-clutch DCT. In the middle kingdom, the larger engine makes 218 PS and 325 Nm of torque.

However, expect the version that does eventually make it here to run the same 1.5-litre BHE15 inline-four turbo engine that makes 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque.

From a cosmetic perspective, the front bumper has been reshaped with chrome fangs framing the air intakes at the side. The flagship trims ride on 20-inch alloys.

The rear gets segmented full-width taillights just like the X50 and the number plate is repositioned into the tailgate from the bumper.

On the inside, the Haoyue L’s dashboard gets full-width air-conditioning vents complemented by a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that runs the Flyme Auto system.

Completing the rest of the cabin is a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a new centre console with a smaller gear selector.

More importantly however is the availability of ADAS in the Haoyue L, as evident from the sensor on at the top of the windscreen.

The aforementioned facelift saw the deletion of its previously available ADAS features that comprised the following:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Blind Spot Technology (BST) – Previously a standard feature, now entirely removed

The X90 was subsequently hit with a revocation of its previous 5-star rating by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (Asean NCAP) and downgraded to a dismal 1-star rating.
