BMW Malaysia is gearing up for the Neue Klasse era, with the BMW iX3 L expected to be one of the first models to lead the rollout locally, reports Carlist.
BMW Group Malaysia managing director Benjamin Nagel said the brand is preparing for the arrival of Neue Klasse during the company’s recent Dealer Awards Night in Kuala Lumpur.
Which Neue Klasse model? Well, the BMW iX3 L is widely expected to be one of the first for Malaysia, with earlier reports indicating that the long-wheelbase model is headed to selected Asian markets including Malaysia.
And why the long wheelbase? A China-built long-wheelbase EV could benefit from lower import duty compared to EVs sourced from other markets, while the extra rear legroom would also suit Malaysian buyer preferences.
Compared to the standard iX3, the iX3 L gets a 3,005 mm wheelbase, which is 108 mm longer than the regular model’s 2,897 mm. The added length is expected to improve rear passenger space and overall cabin comfort, which should make sense for markets in this region.
Design-wise, the iX3 L largely follows the standard Neue Klasse iX3, with BMW’s new front-end treatment and slim lighting signatures. The Chinese-market model also gets conventional pull-up door handles, reportedly due to upcoming local regulations against concealed or powered door handles.
