Neighbours Indonesia gets the honour of being the first Southeast Asian market to receive the all-new 2026 Honda Prelude, following its global debut in Japan, with an estimated pricing of below IDR 1 billion (~RM 236,000).
Of course, the Prelude sold in Indonesia will be CBU and only available in a single variant. Pre-bookings were opened a few days ago and if all goes well, customer deliveries will commence in May 2026.
The revival of the iconic nameplate will see a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle engine, the same from the Civic Hybrid, paired with a dual-motor hybrid system. On its own, the petrol motor makes 139 PS and 177 Nm with the electric motor contributing 184 PS and 315 Nm for a combined of 203 PS.
There is no gearbox, not in the traditional sense anyways. Instead, Honda’s S+ Shift system does its best imitation of one by simulating an eight-speed transmission.
Some have said the Prelude is an amalgamation of the Civic Hybrid and Civic Type-R, as the latter contributes significantly to the ride and handling, by sharing its dual-axis strut front suspension. You’ll also get variable gear ratio steering, adaptive dampers and massive Brembo brakes at the front.
Indonesian buyers will have a few colours to drive their Prelude home in, Rallye Red, Crystal Black Pearl, Moonlit White Pearl and Racing Blue Pearl.
Honda Malaysia has always had a close relationship with the mothership in Japan, resulting in Malaysia being the only country outside of its native home to sell the FD2R Honda Civic Type-R. Given that, it is highly likely the Prelude could be making its way to our shores soon but the price could be a true point of contention and expect it to be just under the Civic Type-R’s RM 399,900.
