The company reported a 42% increase in net profit for 2025 at 72.2 billion yuan (~RM 41 billion). Sales of its lithium-ion batteries grew by 39% over 2024 to 661 gigawatt hours (gWh), based on a filing with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. This is on top of China carmakers recording a 30% year-on-year increase in EV sales to over 16 million units.

“From mastering fundamentals to achieving innovative breakthroughs, and from products to services and then to ecosystem building, we are continuously expanding the boundaries of electrification applications, with our products now extending from passenger vehicles to commercial vehicles, electric vessels, electric aviation and other fields,” said CATL chairman Zeng Yuqun.

On the other hand, CATL is transitioning into the energy storage business that is backed up by strong growth as sales amounted to 121 GWh, a 29.13% increase year-on-year. The company continues to expand into energy storage solutions and services, leading global energy storage battery shipments for the fifth consecutive year in 2025.

Apart from the automotive sector, CATL is moving into other emerging sectors that are beginning to rely on batteries, such as maritime, aviation and data centres.

In fact, CATL recorded impairment losses of approximately 9 billion yuan (~RM 5.1 billion) in 2025 primarily due to write-down of inventory and the impairment of long-term assets. The losses resulted in a write-off amounting to 8.3 billion yuan (~RM 4.7 billion) from the net profit it posted.
