The most striking design element will be the retro trademark quad round taillights that descended from the GT-R. There also appears to be a cursive Skyline wording that adds to the retro vibe.

Nissan including the signature quad round taillights could indicate that a closer technical relation between this new Skyline and the upcoming R36 GT-R. However, it could be a double-edged sword as that might mean the fire-breathing supercar might be watered down instead of the Skyline sedan taking it up a notch in performance.

Japanese site Best Car reports the new Skyline will be based on the outgoing V37 generation and run on the same VR30DDTT 3.0-litre trin-turbo V6 found in the Nissan Z (400Z). Power will be the same 405 PS and 475 Nm of torque with a 7-speed automatic sending it to the rear.

The announcement of new models, including this new Skyline sedan, sees it fall under Nissan’s new product strategy that segmentise models into Heartbeat, Core and Growth classifications. Here, the sedan is classified as a Heartbeat model that signifies Nissan’s identity, emotional value and innovation.

Core models such as the new X-Trail represent more mainstream offerings that fill the coffers while Growth models are aimed at emerging markets and segments.

Best Car states the new Skyline sedan could be launched in 2027 to coincide with the nameplate’s 70th anniversary. Perhaps news regarding the R36 GT-R would be released then. While initial rumours claimed the next generation would be an EV, it now appears more likely to have some sort of electrification but with an internal combustion heart pumping away, likely something based on the VR30DDTT.
