BYD is closing in on a major landmark in its international expansion, with the Chinese carmaker on track to export one million vehicles in 2025. Fresh industry figures released on December 23 show BYD shipped 128,067 passenger vehicles overseas in November alone, marking a sharp year-on-year jump of 313.4 per cent and a month-on-month increase

The strong November performance has lifted BYD’s total exports for the first eleven months of 2025 to 878,498 units, a rise of 144 per cent compared with the same period last year. That figure already exceeds double the company’s entire export volume for 2024, highlighting the pace at which BYD has scaled up its global operations.

Although Chery remained China’s largest vehicle exporter in November with 135,190 units shipped abroad, BYD ranked second and continues to narrow the gap. The momentum reflects the brand’s growing footprint across multiple regions, particularly in markets that are accelerating their shift towards electrified vehicles.

BYD’s overseas performance has translated into market leadership in several countries. In November, the company led new energy vehicle sales in Brazil, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Croatia, while also emerging as the top-selling automotive brand overall in Singapore. Looking at cumulative results from January to November, BYD maintained its lead in the new energy vehicle segment in Brazil, Turkey, Spain and Italy, and continued to dominate overall brand sales in both Singapore and Hong Kong.

The company’s rise has also seen it overtake Tesla in sales across eleven key markets in 2025. These include major European countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria and Ireland, as well as Asian markets including Malaysia, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand and China.

By December 2025, BYD’s new energy vehicles were present in 119 countries and regions worldwide, underlining the brand’s increasingly global reach. The export surge comes on the back of another significant achievement earlier this month, when BYD produced its 15 millionth new energy vehicle on December 18, becoming the first automaker to reach that figure.

With exports continuing to climb and global demand showing no signs of slowing, BYD appears well positioned to cross the one-million export mark before the year is out, reinforcing its status as one of the world’s most influential players in the electric vehicle space.
