Audi is preparing to lift the covers on the AUDI E7X, a fully electric premium SUV developed specifically for China and the second production model from its China-only sister brand, AUDI. Blending Audi’s long-standing engineering strengths with SAIC’s deep integration into China’s digital ecosystem, the E7X signals how seriously the German marque is taking the
Designed as a production version of the earlier AUDI E SUV concept, the E7X carries a confident, futuristic look with proportions that emphasise both presence and practicality. Measuring 5,049 mm long, 2,002 mm wide and 1,708 mm tall, with a generous 3,060 mm wheelbase, the SUV promises a spacious and comfortable cabin while maintaining a strong, premium road stance.
Its exterior design is defined by clean, uncluttered surfaces and distinctive lighting signatures at both ends. At the front, a tall, upright face is framed by a black wraparound loop that houses vertically arranged digital Matrix LED headlights, giving the E7X a bold and immediately recognisable appearance. Short overhangs and muscular wheel arches add to the SUV’s dynamic character, while the overall form projects a calm, monolithic confidence rather than unnecessary aggression.
Power comes from two fully electric drivetrain options, delivering system outputs of either 402hp or 670hp, ensuring strong performance to match the E7X’s premium positioning. The focus, however, is not just on outright pace, but on delivering refined driving dynamics that remain true to Audi’s reputation for balance and quality.
The project’s leadership has positioned the E7X as an SUV designed without trade-offs, combining sporty proportions and progressive design with everyday usability. This balance is central to the model’s appeal, particularly for Chinese customers who expect both cutting-edge technology and real-world comfort from a premium electric SUV.
The E7X follows the earlier AUDI E5 Sportback and continues the strategy introduced when the AUDI sister brand was launched in November 2024. Unlike traditional Audi models, this brand does away with the familiar four-ring badge, instead using the AUDI name in capital letters to clearly differentiate it while targeting new customer segments in China.
Built on the jointly developed Advanced Digitized Platform, the E7X is the result of close collaboration between Audi and SAIC, with engineering teams in Germany and China working side by side. This approach has allowed for significantly shorter development times while ensuring the vehicle meets local expectations. The result is an intelligent, highly connected electric SUV that complements Audi’s global line-up rather than competing with it.
While the E7X unmistakably carries Audi DNA in terms of driving feel and build quality, it is also deeply embedded in China’s digital landscape. From connectivity to user experience, the SUV has been tailored for tech-savvy buyers who expect seamless integration with local digital services.
With its official debut confirmed for Auto China 2026 and sales to follow shortly after, the AUDI E7X represents another important step in Audi’s evolving China strategy, showcasing how the brand is adapting its design, technology and identity to stay relevant in a fast-moving electric era.
