One would imagine a model assembled in Malaysia would be launched within that market before any of its neighbours but the facelifted Kia Carnival is a curious case indeed. Following its launch in Thailand, the MPV is finally being launched here on 15 January 2026 and with a new powertrain to boot, making it Kia
Indonesia was the first Asean country to get the refreshed fourth-generation Carnival, a full 15 months before Thailand received it in October 2025. The reason for the odd arrangement stems from other markets sourcing the model from South Korea whereas Thailand gets it from Malaysia.
Furthermore, the transition of Kia global assuming control here would have delayed its Malaysian launch. The facelifted CKD Carnival is assembled at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah.
Powertrain options are not set in stone yet but the Thailand model runs on a hybrid petrol setup that replaces the 2.2-litre turbodiesel.
The setup is a 1.6-litre Smartstream turbocharged and direct-injected inline-four petrol engine, producing 180 PS and 265 Nm of torque on its own. It is paired with an electric motor packing 54 PS and 304 Nm or torque. Combined with a six-speed automatic, the total output is 245 PS and 367 Nm.
Perusing the Thai-spec Carnival should give a strong indication of the changes that are due here on 15 January. New front and rear fascias now carry Kia’s Opposites United design language. The headlights are now vertical LED units with the DRLs flanking a larger grille while the rear is fitted with inverted L-shaped taillights. Rolling stock are 19-inch cubic-designed wheels that project a tasteful retro vibe.
Changes were kept minimal in the cabin though. The infotainment screen remains a 12.3-inch touchscreen. However, the entry-level trim is now fitted with a LCD instrument cluster while the flagship trim retains the 12.3-inch full-colour display. Speaking of infotainment, the system has been upgraded with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, the air-conditioning and audio controls have been combined into a single touch panel as seen in the EV6.
Other kit includes triple-zone air-conditioning, powered sliding doors, second-row captain seats, a 360-degree camera system and a hands-free powered tailgate. Step up to the premium trim and the list is extended to include dual sunroofs, Premium Relaxation powered seats with ottomans and single-touch recline for the second row, ventilation for the first and second row seats as well as a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
Completing the equipment list is a comprehensive advanced driver assistance safety suite comprising autonomous emergency braking, lane keep mitigation, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. Passive safety includes eight airbags.
Stay tuned on 15 January 2026 for the official specs and pricing of the facelifted Kia Carnival.
