It is looking like a hectic start to the new year with bookings officially open for the 2026 Toyota Vios HEV, indicating an imminent launch. UMW Toyota’s official site already carries a page for the two variants of the hybrid B-segment sedan.
According to the site, there will be two variants of the Vios HEV, a Vios 1.5 HEV AT and a flagship Vios 1.5 HEV GR-S. Estimated pricing is as follows:
Vios HEV AT – RM103,900
Vios HEV GR-S – RM 109,900
Interestingly, both hybrid variants narrowly undercut its primary competitor, the Honda City e:HEV RS. However, the estimated pricing could be introductory and subject to an increase in the future.
The site has not listed the powertrain figures but there is no reason to think it will be any different than the version already on sale in Thailand. That will see the Toyota’s fourth-generation hybrid system, the very same found in the Yaris Cross.
A 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine pumps out a modest 91 PS and 121 Nm of torque. An electric motor at the front brings 80 PS and 141 Nm of torque on its own, fed by a 0.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. Combined, the system output is 111 PS to the front wheels via the e-CVT automatic transmission. There is also an EV mode button. Claimed fuel consumption figures are 3.6 L/100 km under NEDC ratings.
For comparisons sake, the City e:HEV RS makes 109 PS and 253Nm of torque.
Not much differs the Vios hybrid from the petrol variants. The easiest tell would be the new 16-inch wheel design while the GR-S rides on 17-inch and tuned GR-S suspension.
The Vios Hybrid AT gets darkened upper grille paired with a gunmetal main grille while the Vios Hybrid GR-S sports a GR honeycomb grille. Of course, the latter also packs an aerokit. Expect the rear of the car to carry exclusive HEV badging.
On the inside, the biggest change, pun intended, would be the larger 10.1-inch infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The petrol variants run a slightly smaller 9.0-inch screen.
Setting the GR-S variant apart is an interior comprising combination leather-and-suede fabric seats, with a black interior and silver accents peppering the cabin.
The battery is positioned beneath the rear seats, which Toyota claims still allows generous boot space for the Vios Hybrid.
While the exact equipment list will only be available at the launch, being the flagship variant means the Vios Hybrid will certainly be kitted with the full Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision system, lane departure prevention (LDP), blind spot monitor and auto high beam.
There will be a five year unlimited mileage warranty for the Vios Hybrid with an eight year unlimited mileage warranty for the battery, inverter and power management control unit.
You can have your Vios Hybrid AT in one of five colours, Platinum White Pearl, Spicy Scarlet SE, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic and a variant-exclusive Celestite Grey Metallic.
As for the Vios Hybrid GR-S, it can be had in Platinum White Pearl, Spicy Scarlet SE and Attitude Black as well as the two-tone Platinum White Pearl and Spicy Scarlet SE with a blacked out roof.
