Time heals all wounds they say but the scar always remains. With that in mind, Toyota is probably hoping that the track-focused hardcore Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR would alleviate our disappointment that a new MR2 has yet to surface at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.
The GR Yaris Morizo RR is an ultra-exclusive variant that chairman Akio Toyoda himself contributed development input based on his experience in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Nurburgring-tuned suspension keeps it planted, aided by a new Morizo (Toyoda’s racing moniker) setting for the AWD system to replace the Gravel setting, delivering fixed torque distribution at a 50:50 split. More feedback is channelled through revised settings for the electric power steering (EPS).
It looks the part too, with a carbon-fibre rear wing, carbon-fibre bonnet and rear wing together with a front spoiler, side skirts and Morizo’s signature Gravel Khaki paintjob. The standard wheels are painted matt bronze with yellow calipers peeking out from behind them.
The cabin gets yellow stitching, a smaller suede steering wheel, Rally2-inspired switchgear, exclusive seats, Rally2-inspired switchgear and a serial number plate.
Only 200 units will be produced and half of those will be reserved for the Japanese market via a lottery system. The other half will find themselves in selected European markets.
