Proton re-entered the Singaporean market in September 2025 with two variants of the Proton eMas 7, the same available in Malaysia. Now, the brand has introduced a new, detuned variant of the eMas 7 to qualify for the more affordable COE Category A bracket.

The expansion of the eMas 7 line-up aims to build momentum for the brand following positive response to the initial two variants. This justified the introduction of a lower-powered variant tailored to local conditions.

Both eMas 7 variants in Malaysia, the Prime and Premium, are offered in Singapore as well. However, with the power coming in at 215 PS, or 160 kW, it falls into the pricier COE Category B bracket for outputs above 110 kW.

The new detuned variant produces 100 kW, or 134 PS, to qualify for the COE Category A granted to cars below 110 kW. Even with the lower output, the new variant still retains its core strengths in performance, safety and usability.

Furthermore, the move is the next phase of Proton’s market development strategy that is led by a carefully planned, evolving product roadmap. Proton has shared its aim to reach 330,000 units by 2030, with the export market contributing to 30% of that figure. Last year, Proton exported 6,000 units.

Not only does the eMas 7 possess an Asean NCAP score of 92.57 points, the highest in its segment, it is supported by an extensive 3S and 4S network in our southern neighbours, paving the way for the future expansion of the eMas range to include the entry-level eMas 5.

“The introduction of the 100kW model for export markets demonstrates Proton’s readiness and adaptability to local regulatory needs and market demands, and going forwards, it will be rolled out to other markets should there be a need for it. For 2026 we plan to grow export sales by strengthening our presence in current markets, exploring new countries, and introducing the latest Proton ICE and EV model offerings,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation.
