MG Motor Malaysia celebrated a strong start to 2026, marked by growing sales, key product milestones, increased customer engagement and continued expansion plans in the Malaysian market.

The brand recorded strong sales growth in Q1 2026 with 807 units, climbing by 57% over Q4 2025’s 513 units. Furthermore, its year-on-year growth with the corresponding period for Q1 2025 grew by 39%.

On the portfolio front, a key milestone for came in March with the MGS5 EV CKD roll-out ceremony at the EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) facility in Melaka, marking MG’s first locally assembled electric vehicle in Malaysia. The EPMB plant will be positioned as the brand’s regional manufacturing hub, with plans to export to South America.

This milestone represents the next phase of MG’s localisation journey and reinforces its long-term commitment to local assembly, technology transfer and the development of Malaysia’s EV ecosystem.

The MGS5 EV CKD is priced at RM 116,900 and is available for viewing and test drives at all MG showrooms nationwide, with special launch promotions ongoing worth up to RM 9,000.

For the foreseeable future, parent company SAIC will continue to focus on MG as its leading presence in Malaysia. This means that the Weststar group will carry on with the Maxus portfolio, as detailed by Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia.

Additionally, there will be no specific limitation on a particular powertrain category, such as ICE or EV. Instead, MG will respond based on local regulations, market demands and government incentives. This leaves the door open to much more models and varied powertrains.

Alongside these milestones, the brand continued to engage customers through a series of festive and retail activations, led by the ‘Experience British Driving Dynamics’ test drive campaign.

Further building on that momentum was executed via roadshows at key lifestyle and retail destinations such as Desa ParkCity, Quayside Mall, The Curve, Starling Mall and IOI City Mall.

The highlight of the company’s Q1 2026 would sure though have to be the MG Cyberster being awarded Performance Car of the Year by MARii.

Future plans for the year include continued effort to strengthen its network and aftersales capabilities, spearheaded by the addition of MG 3S centres in Kuantan and Rawang. The brand currently has up to 11 body and paint facilities nationwide.

Lastly, MG Motor Malaysia will participate in the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show. Lending significance to their booth will be the presence of Jozef Kaban, Vice President of Global Design at SAIC Motor, who will share insights into MG’s design philosophy and evolving global design language,
