Nissan’s Legendary GT-R Set to Go Electric with Solid-State Batteries

The first glimpse of this transformation came when Nissan revealed its Hyper Force EV concept in October last year. Described by Nissan as a “game-changing hyper EV,” the electric sports car is touted to deliver over 1,300hp. In comparison, Tesla’s Cyberbeast edition of the Cybertruck reaches a maximum of 845hp.

The Hyper Force’s impressive power is enabled by a newly developed electric powertrain paired with solid-state batteries. Collaborating with Nissan’s NISMO racing team, the car’s exterior has been designed for maximum aerodynamics, incorporating features like a two-tiered front lip and a rear diffuser to enhance efficiency.

When asked about the potential of solid-state batteries, Nissan’s global vice president of product planning, Ivan Espinosa, emphasised that this technology is particularly well-suited for high-performance vehicles like sports cars. Solid-state batteries offer the advantage of packaging more energy in a smaller space, which makes them ideal for electric sports cars.

Espinosa further hinted that the electric GT-R would be an ideal candidate to debut these solid-state batteries. While the official announcement is still pending, the Hyper Force concept featured a blurred-out “GT-R” logo, fuelling speculation that Nissan’s legendary sports car is poised to make a historic shift toward electrification.
