A large-scale traffic enforcement operation carried out nationwide over New Year’s Eve and into the first days of the new year resulted in 12,437 summonses being issued and more than 20 people taken into custody. The operation, which covered more than 240 locations across the country, was aimed at keeping roads safe, maintaining public order

According to the Star, the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said 390 vehicles were seized during the operation, while 25 individuals were detained for further action under various laws, including the Road Transport Act 1987. Of those detained, 20 were arrested under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, three under the Penal Code and another three under other legislation.

The nationwide effort involved significant manpower, with 327 senior police officers and 2,460 personnel deployed, working alongside other agencies such as the Road Transport Department. Authorities reported that the coordinated operation helped prevent serious incidents and kept traffic moving during one of the busiest periods of the year.

In Kuala Lumpur, enforcement teams issued 378 summonses and seized 90 motorcycles. Inspections focused largely on young riders aged between 15 and 19, with common offences including riding without a valid licence, expired road tax and unauthorised vehicle modifications. Despite some riders attempting to flee, no serious incidents were reported during the operation in the capital.

Selangor also saw heavy enforcement activity, with 1,206 summonses issued and seven individuals detained. Ampang Jaya recorded the highest number of summonses at 199, followed by Shah Alam with 161 and Petaling Jaya with 156. Other districts such as North Klang, South Klang and Sungai Buloh also came under close watch as police maintained heightened surveillance throughout the celebrations.

Police said the operation demonstrated their continued commitment to road safety and urged motorists to comply with traffic laws, particularly during festive seasons when accident risks tend to rise.
