An Autocar report cites the increase in ‘synergies’ that will include sharing of the REEV tech, according to Leapmotor International CEO Xin Tianshu. Currently, the only overlap between the two brands comes down to Leapmotor using Peugeot’s established global network, including Malaysia, to sell its own cars.

The move primarily stems from Europe failing to meet EV infrastructure and sales targets, necessitating interim solutions such as REEV to bridge the gap in the meantime.

A major understanding during the deal when Stellantis acquired 51% of Leapmotor’s international arm was the transference of technology.

The Leapmotor REEV tech comprises a 1.5-litre inline-four engine that powers an electric motor, the latter making 215 PS and 320 Nm of torque. Linked to a 28.4 kWh LFP battery, it will deliver a pure electric range of 145 km for a total of 975 km. While only fitted in the C10 for now, this powertrain will eventually make its way into the smaller B10.

By integrating Leapmotor’s REEV tech, Peugeot could increase the viability of its own models. Moving forward, this could extend to even Leapmotor’s future models rudding on Stellantis underpinnings or vice versa to boost economies of scale.

Furthermore, given that Leapmotor claims 65% of its components by value are developed in-house, the increased sharing of tech and platforms will reduce purchasing components externally for further savings.
