Following the export of models from Malaysia to Vietnam, Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Chery) has begun rolling out models to Brunei from Malaysia, making it the second Asean market and a solid step forward in establishing Malaysia as its regional production and export hub.

The first Brunei-bound batch of vehicles was officiated by Chery executives, flagging them off as they were loaded up for transport.

“Following the start of exports to Vietnam in February 2025, Brunei’s proximity and market potential make it a logical and important next step. This initial shipment of the Jaecoo J7 allows us to gauge market reception and lay a solid foundation in Brunei,” said Cheng Nam Weng, Chery Vice President.

The initial batch of models to Brunei will comprise the popular Jaecoo J7 (2WD) and J7 PHEV manufactured at the Shah Alam plant and are identical in terms of specifications to the variants sold in Malaysia.

Moving forward, Chery’s medium-term export strategy will prioritise establishing a solid foundation in these new export markets and settle into sustainable growth for stability.

Based on its strong foothold in Malaysia as a regional hub, Chery has successfully exported models to Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and now Brunei. Chery has closely evaluated performance, customer feedback and market trends to craft a learning-based approach that will guide their future expansion plans into other Asean markets and ensure positive results.
