The K4 is the successor to the Forte and Cerato, which were also previously known as the K3 in some markets. The K3 name is now used for Kia’s newer B-segment sedan, while the K4 moves into the C-segment sedan space.
Measuring 4,710 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,420 mm tall, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase, the K4 sedan is larger than the Honda Civic in overall footprint, although the Civic has a slightly longer wheelbase.
The show car displayed in Malaysia is the GT-Line variant. It gets Kia’s current design language, including star map signature lighting, small cube LED projector headlamps and a modern interpretation of the brand’s Tiger Face front end.
The K4 also features a fastback-style profile, prominent rear haunches and a rear bumper with an integrated diffuser. As a GT-Line model, it receives sportier front and rear bumpers, gloss black accents, a satin chrome beltline, gloss black mirror caps, gloss black window trim and gloss black side sills.
Power comes from a Smartstream G 1.6 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine producing 193 PS and 265 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending drive to the front wheels.
The car shown at KLIMS rides on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/40 tyres. Suspension consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear.
Inside, the K4 gets a two-tier dashboard with a widescreen display layout. This consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate display and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Equipment shown includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats and a 60:40 split-folding rear bench.
