The Kedah police are urging the public to help by photographing modified vehicles and sharing them on social media as part of efforts to combat illegal racing and ‘mat rempit’ activities. According to Astro Awani, he encouraged the public to take pictures of any suspicious vehicles, including motorcycles, cars and even bicycles, that have been illegally modified, such as those with flat tyres, removed brakes, or upgraded carburettors. The police will then use these images to trace the vehicles to their owners’ homes.
Speaking at a media conference at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters (IPD), Fisol added that enforcement orders have been issued to all district police departments, particularly the traffic section, to tackle this problem. He emphasised that modified vehicles pose a danger not only to the riders but also to the public, and cooperation between the authorities and the public is essential to curb the issue.
In addition, Fisol announced the disposal of 330 confiscated items, including exhaust systems, swing arms, and carburettors, seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act. These items, along with 302 others disposed of in July, were handled according to court orders.
