Xiaomi’s chief executive, Lei Jun, has officially approved the production of the highly anticipated SU7 Ultra, just a month after the prototype was first revealed. The car is powered by Xiaomi’s in-house developed electric motors, delivering an astonishing 1,527hp.
Driver Skill Requirements
Given the immense power of the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi has implemented a unique approach to ensure that drivers can safely harness its full potential. According to Lei Jun, prospective owners will need to complete a step-by-step exam before unlocking the car’s complete performance capabilities. While the specifics of this exam have not been disclosed, it is expected that the car will feature various driving modes that gradually allow access to its full power.

The SU7 Ultra’s performance figures are nothing short of remarkable. It produces up to 2,145kg of downforce and weighs just 1,900kg, thanks to its lightweight carbon fibre body panels. Despite its weight, the SU7 Ultra is significantly lighter than key competitors, including the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Equipped with a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery pack, the SU7 Ultra can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 1.97 seconds, reach 200km/h in 5.97 seconds, and hit 300km/h in 15 seconds. Xiaomi is aiming to beat the Taycan Turbo GT’s impressive 7:07.55 lap time at the Nurburgring later this year.
Launch and Pricing
Xiaomi plans to open order books for the SU7 Ultra in the first quarter of 2025. While pricing details have yet to be announced, the SU7 Ultra is expected to be more expensive than the standard SU7. However, it could still be priced competitively against rivals like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, offering a significant performance-to-cost advantage.
