The Volkswagen Tayron is now in Malaysia as a CKD seven-seater SUV, with the Elegance priced from RM 190,660 and the R-Line previewed.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the Volkswagen Tayron in Malaysia. The Tayron is positioned as a seven-seater SUV between the Tiguan and Touareg, and is locally assembled (CKD) at Volkswagen’s plant in Pekan.

For Malaysia, two variants are being introduced: the Tayron Elegance and Tayron R-Line. However, only the Tayron Elegance is priced for now. The Tayron Elegance is priced at RM 190,660 without Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), or RM 200,760 with VAP. The VAP adds RM 10,100 and includes five years of maintenance or 75,000 km, five years manufacturer’s warranty and five years roadside assistance.

The Tayron R-Line is currently available for preview only, with estimated pricing from RM 259,000 to RM 269,000.

The Tayron Elegance is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild hybrid engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch DSG transmission and drives the front wheels.

The mild hybrid system uses a 48-volt belt-driven starter-alternator, while ACTplus Active Cylinder Management allows two of the engine’s four cylinders to shut off under low and medium loads to improve efficiency.

Volkswagen lists a 0-100 km/h time of 9.6 seconds, with claimed fuel consumption of 6.1L/100 km. The Tayron Elegance also gets Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro) with driving mode selection, allowing the suspension to adapt to road conditions.

The Tayron R-Line, meanwhile, gets a more powerful 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine with 265 PS and 400 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG and 4Motion all-wheel drive. Like the Elegance, it also gets DCC Pro.

In terms of size, the Tayron Elegance measures 4,792 mm long, 1,853 mm wide and 1,668 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,788 mm. Luggage space is rated at 345 litres with all seats in use, expanding to 1,905 litres with the second and third rows folded.

On the outside, the Tayron Elegance comes with LED Plus headlights, dynamic headlight range control with dynamic cornering and poor weather lights, 3D LED taillights, front and rear illuminated Volkswagen logos, illuminated light strips and LED-illuminated door handle recesses.

It also gets Elegance exterior styling for the front bumper, radiator grille and rear bumper, roof rails, a hands-free tailgate and 18-inch Napoli alloy wheels with 235/55 R18 tyres.

Available colours for the Tayron Elegance are Oryx White Pearl, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic and Oyster Silver Metallic.

Inside, the Elegance gets Varenna leather upholstery, ergoActive Plus front seats with 12-way power adjustment, memory function, heating, ventilation, pneumatic lumbar support and massage function. The massage system uses 10 air cushions, with adjustable intensity and programmes lasting between 10 and 30 minutes.

Other comfort features include three-zone Air Care Climatronic automatic air conditioning with rear controls, a heated multifunction steering wheel, 30-colour ambient lighting, ornamental wood dashboard trim and a multi-function control knob for speaker volume, driving profiles and ambient lighting.

There are also two USB-C ports at the front and two USB-C charging ports at the rear centre console, with output of up to 45W.

The R-Line adds a 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment system, head-up display and Harman Kardon sound system with 10+1 speakers, a dedicated subwoofer, 700-watt output and a 16-channel digital amplifier.

On the safety front, both variants are equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive driver assistance systems. These include Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Lane Change System Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert with Exit Warning, Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring, Park Assist Plus with Park Distance Control, Proactive Passenger Protection System and Emergency Assist.
